Pirate telescopes are really fun to make and play with. The pirate telescope craft will teach your tween or teenager to make a moving pirate telescope using cereal boxes, tin foil and soda lids. To add beads and see treasure everywhere – add two lenses as shown in the toddler pirate spyglass craft

Please use the tabs below to explore the project – the details section tells you how to make the project, materials needed tells you what you need with links to order the things you don’t have and the template section allows you to download the project.

These are the steps to make your tween moving pirate telescope craft:

1. Cut the cereal boxes so that you have two equal sized cardboard rectangles

2. Cover the two rectangles with tin foil on both sides

3. Cover half of the rectangle with glue and make it into a tube.

4. Make two tubes – one slightly thinner than the other and make sure that the thinner one fits into the larger tube

5. Cover both tubes again witha layer of tin foil – this hides the joints and makes the tubes stronger

6. Place the thin tube inside the thick tube and use a craft knife to make two slits – one on either side of the tube

7. Thread a popsicle stick through the slits and check the tubes slides nicely

8. Use two soda lids to cover the end of the popsicle sticks and secure with tape

9. Make ends for the tubes by creating foil snakes and secure in place with masking tape

10. Make an instrument panel and secure with masking tape

11. Paint the masking tape and decorate.
